What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
This professional experience placement unit explores concepts associated with sustainable health care and service delivery through an occupational lens. Relevant frameworks, including the Sustainable Quality Improvement (SuSQI) principles are applied   in practice to research, analyse and make recommendations for improvement in sustainable practice.  Using participatory and collaborative methods you will plan and implement a project in partnership with a host agency and key stakeholders.  The issue you are working on will be pitched to you by the agency and will reflect contemporary need for quality improvement for client focused service outcomes.  You will demonstrate occupational therapy competencies at an intermediate level including professional practice, self-management and teamwork, communication, documentation, information gathering, critical analysis, service delivery, evaluation, and reflective practice.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1
Explain the relationships between sustainability principles and practices, occupational therapy, and service delivery.
2
Perform research literacy skills, information gathering, and synthesis aimed at quality improvement through a sustainability framework.
3
Use critical analysis and participatory methods to identify and recommend ethical quality improvements in service delivery for individuals, communities, and populations in a relevant practice context.

This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.

If your unit is offered Online or includes online activities, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline or MyLO, including any self-directed learning.

If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.
