What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
This unit explores the nature and practice of change in the rapidly changing and increasingly complex health and human service environment. You are encouraged to extend your change leadership acumen through the exploration and critical analysis of change leadership frameworks, drivers for change, consequences of change, resistance to change, change readiness, and leading organizations through change.
You will develop practical capabilities in planning, implementing and evaluating change initiatives in the health and human service sector.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1
Evaluate personal and broader societal factors that impact on the success of change initiatives within health and human service settings including culture, community attitudes, evidence-based practice, quality and safety systems and governance.
2
Critically analyse change management and change leadership approaches including impacts on system change, uptake of evidence-based practice, and service innovation in health and human services.
3
Apply appropriate change tools and techniques to plan, implement and evaluate a change initiative in the health and human service sector.
4
Critically evaluate the leadership implications of change initiatives in health and human services and communicate this effectively in a specific context.
Alterations as a result of student feedback
Following student feedback, several enhancements have been made to improve engagement and learning outcomes within this unit. In particular, discussion board assessments have been removed, as students indicated these did not effectively support meaningful interaction and the associated workload was disproportionally high relative to their value. These have been replaced with structured, interactive oral discussions designed to foster deeper engagement and real-time critical thinking. Additional minor refinements have also been implemented to assessment expectations and streamline the overall learning experience.

Attendance / engagement expectations
If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.

If your unit is offered Online or includes online activities, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline or MyLO, including any self-directed learning.

If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.

This unit is available online and delivered asynchronously, meaning that you can work through the content at a time and pace which suits you. There are no attendance requirements, however we strongly encourage you to attend webinars where possible or watch the recordings at a later time. Modules of content will be released progressively throughout the semester.
