Attendance / engagement expectations
If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.
If your unit is offered Online or includes online activities, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline or MyLO, including any self-directed learning.
If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.
Students are expected to actively and positively engage in the teaching and learning environment by attending classes, maintaining steady progress, meeting workload expectations, and submitting assessment tasks on time. A significant component of this unit involves self-directed learning, including online asynchronous activities that should be completed prior to related on-campus sessions; use time between in-person classes and off-campus days productively to complete these.
Attendance at all on-campus, onsite and zoom activities is expected to support your individual learning and the development of a learning community. If a session is missed, you should review online materials, obtain notes from classmates, and contact the lecturer if you still have questions.
Students must prepare for and participate actively in CBL tutorials, clinical skills sessions, and other teaching activities. Attendance may be recorded for professionalism assessments and wellbeing monitoring. Participation in the Community Partnership Program and Kids & Families Program is compulsory. Absences from CBL tutorials must be reported to your tutor and local campus Clinical Practice Coordinator. Ongoing attendance issues and absences of one week or more must be reported to the Campus Lead, Unit Coordinator and Coordinator of Student Development and Support. A medical certificate (from a non-relative) is required for illness-related absences.
Timetables vary weekly and classes must sometimes be rescheduled. Students should generally keep Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm available for sessions on or off campus or via Zoom. Regular on-campus days are typically Wednesday (Hobart, almost all weeks; Burnie and Launceston, several weeks), Thursday and Friday, with occasional sessions on Monday or Tuesday.
Students who do not complete mandatory training or PEP requirements may be unable to attend placement programs and thus not meet unit requirements.
