What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
This unit expands on your prior learning of assessment and differential diagnosis with a key focus on the principles of selecting of evidence-based assessment tools. This unit will support you to provide client centred assessment feedback with regard to relevant cultural and developmental factors, and to report writing principles. This unit provides an expansion on cognitive assessment, and other risk assessments, especially relating to children and families.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:

If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. Assessment details
Assessment Task 1: Assessment Plan Video Script and Reflection
Task Description:
You will be provided with case material for a pseudo client. You will be required to video record yourself introducing the assessment process and assessment plan to the caregiver of the pseudo client. You are required to provide a rationale for the assessment tools to the caregiver using accessible language. You will also write a reflection about the skills you demonstrated in this task.

If you do not achieve a passing grade on this task you will be provided written feedback and required to resubmit a revised script and reflection that addresses the feedback provided on your original submission. If you are unable to achieve a passing grade following the resubmission you will be awarded an NN for this task and this unit.

Assessment Task 2: Assessment Workshop Quiz
Task Description:
You will be provided with five separate case studies through Mylo during a PSY705 workshop. You will be required to read each of the case studies and identify which assessment battery is the most appropriate for each case from the listed options. You must complete this task individually and submit via MyLO within the relevant workshop.

If you do not achieve a passing grade on this task you will be provided written feedback and required to resubmit a quiz. If you are unable to achieve a passing grade following the resubmission you will be awarded an NN for this task and this unit.

Assessment Task 3: Assessment Report
Task Description:
You will be provided with raw score assessment results for the pseudo client used for Assignment 1. You will be required to analyse and interpret the raw scores and provide a written report detailing your assessment findings, recommendations regarding supports, treatment, as well as any further assessment or referrals as relevant.
If you do not achieve a passing grade on this task you will be provided written feedback and required to resubmit a revised report that addresses the feedback provided on your original submission. If you are unable to achieve a passing grade following the resubmission you will be awarded an NN for this task and this unit.

Assessment Task 4: OSCE
Task Description:
This task requires you to demonstrate competency in interpreting and communicating assessment results. You will be required to interpret assessment data and provide assessment feedback to a pseudo client while monitoring and managing the pseudo client’s response to the findings.
You must successfully pass the OSCE for PSY705 in order to achieve an overall passing grade on this examination and this unit. If you do not achieve a passing grade on the PSY705 OSCE station, you will be provided remedial feedback and you will be required to undertake an OSCE reassessment at a date determined by the School of Psychological Sciences. If after a second attempt you are unable to obtain a passing grade, you will be required to repeat this unit in the following academic year

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes.
Your grade will be determined in the following way:
All assessments within the Postgraduate Professional Training Programs at the University of Tasmania adhere to an ungraded pass profile. Similarly, your academic transcript will use this same grading system.
This means all assessable work will be graded as either UP (ungraded pass), or NN (fail grade), which indicates you need to continue towards developing that competency. You are required to achieve a UP on all assessment pieces in order to successfully pass a unit of study – be that coursework, placement, or thesis.
A UP grade equates to achievement of 70% or higher on a given task, and this benchmark must be achieved to be awarded a UP. These criteria are consistent with both the required performance on the National Psychology Exam, as well as within the School of Psychological Sciences, College of Health and Medicine, University of Tasmania.
Marks are reviewed by the Unit Coordinator and Psychology’s Assessment Committee and may be adjusted to ensure fairness, consistency and appropriateness before the final marks and grades are assigned in accordance with University policy and the specified unit assessment. Psychology’s grades and marks are also reviewed by the College of Health and Medicine, Assessors’ Committee.
Note: In order to obtain a full passing grade in this unit, students are expected to submit and achieve a UP grade on all assessable work.

Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.
 
A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.
 
The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
