Unit Outline

CSA322 is designed to build upon your existing knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, microbiology and evidence-based health, in order to develop the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to deliver pharmaceutical care. Topics include the pathophysiology and therapeutic principles relevant to the management of common diseases. In CSA322, these include cardiovascular, haematological, renal, endocrine and respiratory conditions. An emphasis is placed on the application of knowledge to evaluate and advise upon pharmacotherapy in clinical situations. Although CSA322 and CSA306 (Therapeutics in Practice 3B) are separate units, the learning derived from one is complementary to the other. CSA322 carries a weighting of 25% (i.e. 25 credit points).

Assessment Task 2: Mid-semester written test

You will be required to sit a face-to-face mid-semester test, comprising multiple-choice questions and short-answer/case-based questions.

How your final result is determined

Your grade will be determined in the following way:
Once all assessments for CSA322 have been completed, you will be allocated either an Interim Completion (IC) or Assessment Outstanding (AO) grade by the Student Centre.

You will, however, be informed of your actual mark for CSA322 (via the MyLO grades function). This mark is derived from the four assessment tasks in the unit, weighted as described above.
 
On completion of CSA306 in Semester 2, an overall mark and grade for 3rd Year Therapeutics in Practice will be derived from the marks for CSA322 and CSA306.

This overall mark will be weighted two-thirds for CSA322 and one-third for CSA306, reflecting the credit points allocated to these two units, i.e., 25 CP and 12.5 CP, respectively. This overall mark and the associated grade will then be applied to both units, over-writing the IC or AO grade originally allocated for CSA322. The Student Centre will communicate this mark and grade to you in the usual way.
An overall mark of at least 50% and a mark of at least 50% in the final CSA306 written exam is required for satisfactory completion of 3rd Year Therapeutics in Practice.

If you do not meet these two requirements for satisfactory completion of 3rd Year Therapeutics in Practice, but who are eligible for a supplementary exam, you will be offered a supplementary exam covering material from both CSA322 and CSA306.

Submission of assignments

Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions

If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.

A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.

The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.

Late penalties

Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first.
