What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
 

This unit explores the methods, opportunities and challenges that organisations experience when planning and evaluating ICT. The introduction of new ICT requires an understanding of how to actively manage change to ensure successful implementation and this unit will include tools and techniques to manage that change. This unit will focus on benefits realisation for the justification and implementation of ICT projects and will provide students with tools that will help justify how the benefits of ICT implementation have alignment with the organisational strategic direction. Upon the completion of this unit, students will gain an understanding how to critically analyse and communicate the impact of an ICT implementation from an ethical, systems and organisational perspective.

As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Assess the suitability of an ICT solution using benefit management approaches.

Evaluate the realisation of benefits to an ICT investment

Analyse the impact of a change management process on stakeholders during an ICT implementation project.

Communicate the impact of an ICT implementation to a variety of stakeholders.
Alterations as a result of student feedback
This unit has been updated based on previous student feedback. The assessment structure has been altered to provide a greater application of the skills learnt and the modules have been redeveloped. Further feedback on this design is welcomed through the semester and in the unit eVALUate.

Assessment Task 1: Ethics of ICT implementations
Task Description:
You will provide a critical analysis on the implementation of ICT into an organisation and discuss the systems impact of that implementation, including the ethical considerations of that ICT implementation. In this assessment item you will need to justify the ethical implementation of ICT into an organisation when compared to other tangible considerations such as profit, workflow efficiencies and resourcing impacts.
Task Length:
You should submit a single file, pdf format that does not exceed 10 pages in total (including references).

Assessment Task 2: Critique of a Benefits Management Case
Task Description:
You will be provided with a Benefits Management Business Case and will be required to critique and justify the actions suggested in the provided Business Case. This assessment case will assist you in their own preparation of their Benefits Management Business Case you are required to submit for this unit. You will be provided with a template to complete this task and will be required to use analytical and communication skills in this assessment task, as well as linking their justification to relevant theory.

Assessment Task 3: Benefits Management Case
Task Description:
You are to work in groups of 4 to investigate the acquisition and implementation of ICT in an organisation. The details of the proposed ICT implementation project will be provided in the first week of semester on MyLO.

You are to prepare a Benefits Management Case clearly arguing benefits of the adoption of the technology while using the tools identified to support a Benefits Management approach.

This assignment item includes self/peer assessment, giving students an opportunity to critically evaluate both self and their peers’ contribution and performance in collaborative effort to meet the requirements of this task, under time pressure. The self/peer assessment component is designed to allow students to demonstrate their ability to reflect on the process and outcomes of teamwork and improve individually and collectively. The self/peer assessment component will influence each team member's result for this assessment task.
Task Length:
The Benefits Management Business Case needs to contain the required elements to meet the assessment criteria and must be able to be submitted to the assessment folder on MyLO.

Assessment Task 4: Analysis of ICT change
Task Description:
You will be asked to work through workshop activities that will explore ICT change management and systems impact concepts. These activities will be completed during the workshop time. You will be required to conduct an analysis and provide recommendations based on the information provided. You will prepare for these workshop activities by engaging with the unit material for that week prior to attending the workshop. This assessment item will be worked on and submitted during each workshop.
Task Length:

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.
Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.
 
A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.
 
The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
