Alterations as a result of student feedback
Whilst students found assessment tasks relevant and practical, some students found the Assessment task 2 planning activity to be too extensive and felt that expectations were not sufficiently explicit. To address this, the planning activities have been streamlined with clearer indications of key teaching points to be considered in planning and analysis.

Attendance / engagement expectations
If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.

If your unit is offered Online, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline, including any self-directed learning.

If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.

In this unit, your active engagement will be monitored in the following way:
Completion of AT1 Individual and Group Quiz for weeks 3 to 5.
Preparation of a draft of your AT2 unit plan to bring to on campus session, collaborate online sessions, or discussion post for peer and tutor feedback in week 5a/5b.
Preparation of a draft of your AT2 lesson plan to bring to on campus session, collaborate online session, or discussion post for peer and tutor feedback in week 10.

Assessment Task 1: Individual and Group Quiz
Task Description:
This assessment task relates to the transformation of knowledge to teaching in identifying appropriate examples and representations. The task will involve a quiz (completed individually and then in a group) targeted at both Primary and Early Years level.

In weeks 3/4 you will take an online MyLO quiz, of 10 multiple-choice questions based on the content of weeks 1 to 3. You will be given an individual mark up to 5%. You have a week to take the quiz. You can only attempt it once. You have 30 minutes maximum time. You should complete your individual quiz by Friday 4:00pm in Week 4.

In weeks 4/5 you will work in groups to revisit the questions from the quiz and see if collectively you can agree on correct responses and improve your score. This will be conducted through discussion posts. Each member of the group will gain the same mark here, up to 5%, but adjustments may be made for individual grades if there is limited evidence of collaboration. You have one week to access the online discussion forum and share your responses to the quiz. The group will submit one agreed response on MyLO by Friday 4.00pm in Week 5.

Please note the different due dates for the individual quiz (Week 4) and the group quiz (Week 5). The individual quiz will be automatically graded; the group quiz will be marked by the lecturer. While you will receive a grade for your individual quiz, you will not know which questions you answered correctly. Feedback to the group quiz will identify correct responses.

Completion of this Assessment Task relates to Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) 1.2, 2.1

Task Length:
Individual Quiz: 10 questions, 30 minutes maximum time, complete anytime between opening and closing (7 days) Group Quiz: One hour discussion post (500 words equivalent)
Due Date:
Week 4 (22/Mar/2024)

Assessment Task 2: Unit and Lesson Plans
Task Description:
Part 1 Unit Plan:
You will be provided with templates to guide you in preparing a unit plan and lesson plan for a chosen year group based on one of Measurement or Space in relation to Australian Curriculum V9. Note that you will be given an example from Year 3 Measurement angles as measures of turn (AC9M3M05) so you should not choose this topic for this year group.

Based on the unit plan template you should prepare key teaching points (not lesson plans) for 5 lessons.
The unit plan should indicate:
• the ACARA v9 content description(s) (max 2) or the EYLF learning outcome(s) (max 2) for the chosen year group;
• one or two learning objective(s) for the unit;
• outline the main prompt/task for each lesson/experience;
• indicate the main representation(s) and choice of example(s) to be used.

This task is marked up to 5% in Part 1 and you will be provided with feedback and points to address for Part 2 of the Assessment Task - Revised Unit Plan and Example Lesson Plan.

The unit plan should be submitted on MyLO by Monday 4:00pm in Week 6.

Part 2 Revised Unit Plan and Example Lesson Plan:
Following feedback from your tutor for your unit plan, you should revise the unit plan and identify the changes that you made following feedback from Part 1 (insert comments to indicate changes). The revised unit plan is marked up 10% in Part 2.
Then select one of the lessons in your unit plan and prepare an example lesson plan. You will be given guidance on preparing the lesson plan, but the lesson should be based on the three-phase model of challenging tasks (Serow et al. 2019). You will be given a template for a written analysis (750 words max) that will include:
• analysis of your main prompt/task in addressing students’ learning in relation to the learning goal for the lesson;
• justification of your teaching strategies - choice of examples, resources and representations and prompts/questions in challenging students’ thinking;
• explanation of how anticipated responses to the main prompt/task are sequenced to consolidate, summarise and extend learning against the learning goal for the lesson and support progression towards the learning objective(s) for the unit. You should use the key texts (Van de Walle et al. and/or Simone et al.) as well as other relevant literature to support your analysis and justification.

Part 1 Lesson Plan: 5%
Part 2 Revised Unit Plan :10%
Lesson Plan: 20%
Analysis: 15%
Total percentage weighting for AT2: 50%

Part 2 should be submitted by Monday 4.00pm in Week 11.

Please note the different due dates for Part 1 (Week 6) and Part 2 (Week 11).

Completion of this Assessment Task relates to Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4

Task Length:
Part 1: Unit Plan - Two sides of A4 maximum (500 word equivalent) Part 2: Unit Plan - Two sides of A4 maximum (500 word equivalent) plus inserted comments; Lesson Plan - Three sides of A4 maximum (750 word equivalent); Analysis - 750 words maximum TOTAL TASK LENGTH: 2000 word equivalent

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.

Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.

A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.

The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Further information on Late Penalties can be found on the Assessments and Results Procedure.

Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
