What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
CSA726 is a self-directed, fully on-line unit, that explores a variety of disease states and their management, using a series of patient cases linked to assignment-based questions, to enable you to enhance your knowledge in the area of clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical care. The unit covers the medication management and clinical pharmacy issues in psychiatric and neurological disorders.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1.
Critically evaluate psychiatric and neurological medications using an evidence-based approach
2.
Critically evaluate psychiatric and neurological medication therapy using an evidence-based approach and accepted best clinical practice to devise and justify appropriate courses of action for therapeutic management.
3.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in pharmacotherapeutics through the development of a comprehensive and reflective professional practice portfolio.
4.
Demonstrate effective written and oral presentation skills to explain contemporary issues associated with psychiatric and neurological medication therapy.

If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. While there is no mandatory attendance for this course, active participation in Zoom sessions and tutorials is highly recommended to enhance your learning experience. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for interaction, discussion, and clarification of concepts. Task Description:
A quiz with multiple choice and short answer questions specific to psychiatric and neurological disorders. You will be answering these questions using current guidelines and evidence from the literature

Assessment Task 5: Advanced Practice Portfolio
Task Description:
You will create an advanced practice portfolio focusing on the following elements:

Learning Journey Reflection: Reflect on your learning journey throughout the clinical units, highlighting key experiences, challenges faced, and how you have grown professionally and personally.

Evidence of Skill Development: Provide examples of how your clinical skills in have evolved, supported by case studies, patient interactions, and clinical decision-making processes.

Interprofessional Collaboration: Describe instances where you collaborated with other healthcare professionals to optimise patient care, highlighting effective communication and teamwork skills.

Professional Development: Discuss professional development activities undertaken during the course, such as continuing education, certifications, participation in workshops or conferences, and how these activities have contributed to your readiness for advanced practice roles.

Career Goals and Next Steps: Outline your short-term and long-term career goals in advancing your clinical pharmacy practice, including aspirations for specialty practice, leadership roles, research involvement, or further education.

You can also utilise the advancing practice competencies in the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia to reflect on your level of performance. Identify strengths and areas for improvement based on these competencies.

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.
Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.
 
A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.
 
The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Recommended reading materials
It is highly recommended that you study topics relevant to your unit from standard clinical pharmacy texts such as Pharmacotherapy by Joseph T DiPiro 11th Edition OR Applied Therapeutics by Koda-Kimble 11th Edition. There is a wide range of textbooks available online that can be accessed through the UTAS library. 
We assume that Pharmacists undertaking the course will have a general knowledge of most of the therapeutic areas covered, as well as have the necessary skills to interpret laboratory and patient data. Some students may need to refresh and revise this knowledge, due to the many different backgrounds and training that our students have.
