What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
This unit is undertaken as the final unit of study in the course. Students propose and complete a capstone learning initiative through which they apply cognate discipline knowledge, problem-solving capability, and applied research skills to develop a proposed solution to a unique administrative, leadership, management, or clinical challenge. Students undertake a self-directed independent project under the supervision of an appropriate academic staff member. Although students may carry out different initiatives, the course content for all students includes planning, delivery, and evaluation. The unit is designed to consolidate the theoretical and practical advanced knowledge and skills that students have acquired throughout their postgraduate studies.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1.
Apply in-depth discipline knowledge to identify and investigate a leadership/clinical/professional issue
2.
Develop an evidence-based solution to address a leadership/clinical/ professional issue (or improve a current practice)
3.
Communicate findings and proposed recommendations through written reports, academic paper, or publication
4.
Reflect critically on your own discipline or professional practice and the initiative implications.

Assessment Task 1: Initiative Proposal
Task Description:
Initiative Proposal
Develop a detailed proposal for a scholarly capstone initiative in your discipline or professional practice. The proposal should include an introduction, aims, objectives, justification of the initiative, initial review of relevant literature, expected outcomes and timeframes. You need to include the content and format of your interim report following discussion with your Unit Coordinator.

Assessment Task 2: Interim Report
Task Description:
Interim Report
The content and format of the interim report will be agreed during the inception phase of the initiative. However, it is expected that the following would be included:
> Progress in the reporting period;
> Anticipated work in forth-coming period;
> Any problems encountered (and solutions offered);
> Any general comments on the progress of the initiative including the impact on your discipline or professional practice.

Assessment Task 3: Final Report
Task Description:
Final Report
The student will produce a tangible outcome that is of benefit to the nominated initiative and the student whilst being academically rigorous.
Depending upon the initiative, may include;
- Executive Summary.
- Introduction.
- Description of the initiative, consider;
context, intervention, justification/rationale, methodology, models, scope,
stakeholders, workplan, audits, analysis, timelines and other metrics as
appropriate.
- Discussion of the findings, conclusions and recommendations.
- Lessons learned including the implications of your initiative and the impact on your discipline or professional practice

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.
Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.
 
A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.
 
The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment.
