What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
This unit is designed to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to your leadership role for clinical supervision in health and human service professions. Students in this unit will explore current literature and research on clinical supervision theory and practice, and critically review models of supervision across professions and healthcare contexts. Students will review their own clinical supervision experiences and practice within the existing models and will analyse, reflect and plan improvements in personal supervisory practice. This unit is suitable for health professionals working in a range of health and human service settings who are responsible, or who wish to develop skills, for supervising students and junior health practitioners.
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1.
Critically analyse the core concepts, methods and models of clinical supervision used in healthcare contexts.
2.
Design a plan for supervision in your healthcare setting based on underlying principles, the evidence base and the practices of different professions.
3.

Assessment Task 1: Discussion posts
Task Description:
The Discussion Board is an important forum that promotes interaction and discussion between you and your fellow students. Online studies can be isolating if there is no contact with other students. In this unit you are required to interact with fellow students through the Discussion Board.

Modules 1, 2 and 3 each have a number of tasks (tasks are clearly identified with the heading Task). You are to answer one task of your choice from each module (ie 3 tasks in total across the semester). The tasks must be submitted via the MyLO DropBox by the due date shown in the unit schedule. Your response should be approximately 300 words with appropriate referencing included where the work of others is discussed or quoted.

Before submitting your final response to a task post your initial thoughts on the Discussion Board and engage in discussion with other students to refine your ideas. You should briefly comment on the responses of at least 2 other students for each module. Please note that your responses must be respectful of other students’ views.

The task you submit for assessment must clearly state the task that you are answering in the subject line (ie Task 1.1a, Task 1.1b etc. for Module 1, Task 1.2a, Task 1.2b Task 1.2c for Module 2 and Task 1.3a, Task 1.3b for Module 3).

In addition to the Tasks you will find a number of Reflection questions – these are clearly marked with the heading ‘Reflection’. The Reflections are moments for you to pause during your reading to reflect on the material and your workplace experience. They relate to your preparation for the assessment tasks and you are required to participate in discussion of the Reflection Questions on the Discussion Board. Select a few of interest to you in each module for brief comment. However, you must ensure that in the subject title that it is clear that you are discussing a reflection topic and that this is not the task that you have submitted to be assessed. Care must be taken if discussing workplace examples to provide appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding individual people, services and sensitive issues.

In addition to the above you are also required to post one brief initial Discussion Board post to introduce yourself to other students.

The Discussion Board for each Module closes on the due date for the Assessments 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. Therefore it is not possible to have an extension for Assessment 1.

Discussion post 1 due week 4
Discussion post 2 due week 7
Discussion post 3 due week 11

Second discussion post is due on Wednesday the 17th of April at 12pm.
Third discussion post is due on Wednesday the 15th of May at 12pm.
