What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
Students completing this unit will acquire advanced problem-solving skills, encompassing the design of targeted healthcare redesign solutions to meet identified quality and safety issues, gaps, and system inefficiencies found within health services. The unit draws upon a solid theoretical and empirical basis and introduces students to a range of best-practice models and tools for use within primary, secondary and tertiary health care contexts. The unit is designed to enhance students’ solution-design and implementation skills within an applied problem-solving environment or in a virtual environment. The unit follows CAM509 Healthcare Redesign Diagnostics and Analysis and is designed to support the second half of a student’s healthcare redesign project. Upon completion of these units, students will have applied healthcare redesign, project and change management theory and skills to deliver a small healthcare redesign project.

Task Description:
This assessment task is to be completed by ACI-NSW Special programs students only and is the first of two assessment pieces for this cohort. This assessment task is part of the unit requirements for students undertaking CAM510 in partnership with the Agency for Clinical Innovation at NSW Health. There are three components of this assessment:

Solutions poster
The A3 poster’s purpose is to clearly convey your future vision and provide a strong rationale for the proposed solutions. There should be logical progression from key issues, root causes and solutions to project objectives. You will need to include what tools and techniques you used to work with stakeholders and develop your solutions. Please use the templates and guidelines provided.

Solutions statements
The solution statements should argue the need for your solutions and how they will work in detail. Benefits, costs and the likelihood of successful implementation will need to be considered. Please use the templates provided.

Project documentation
You will also need to submit your supporting project documentation including your communication plan, risks and issues register and Gantt chart. The project documentation should demonstrate detailed planning for the solutions phase and forward planning for the upcoming implementation planning phase. Please use the templates provided.

In your Diagnostics Report you will detail the findings from your diagnostics phase and provide baseline data so that any changes you make can be measured. You are expected to combine quantitative and qualitative measures from patient, staff, and organisational perspectives to identify overarching themes and key issues. Your Diagnostics Report should explicitly link the evidence you’ve collected with key issues and provide a clear and convincing case for change. The purpose of the Diagnostics Report is to provide a compelling case for change and a detailed understanding of the causes of your problem. There should be no mention of potential solutions.

We recommend you use the template provided in MyLO. It is important that you address each assessment criterion. This should be a standalone document. We suggest that you format your report with the following sections:

• Project overview including problem statement, brief background, scope, SMART goals, and timeline (approx. 250 words)
• Summary of diagnostic and engagement activities undertaken
• Case for change (key data and evidence)
• Overarching themes with supporting evidence
• Diagnostic findings. Detailed analysis and interpretation of diagnostic data. Supporting complex/lengthy analyses can be included as appendices but should be summarised in body of the report.)

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.

Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.

A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.

The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Further information on Late Penalties can be found on the Assessments and Results Procedure.

Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
