Attendance / engagement expectations
If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.
If your unit is offered Online, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline, including any self-directed learning.
If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.
Honours runs from day 1 of semester 1 through to the end of semester 2. Attendance requirements will be dictated by the nature of the research and where it is being undertaken (i.e., hospital, laboratory, etc.). Attendance requirements will be agreed mutually between student and supervisor. There is an expectation despite the nature of the project that the minimum time required to accomplish successful completion of the Honours year is a ~37 hours per week. For part-time students, the minimum weekly allocation will be 18.5 hours. Any leave taken during honours should be negotiated with the supervisor.
The University, Tasmanian School of Medicine, Menzies Research Institute and Wicking Dementia Centre acknowledges that students are involved in extra-curricular activities and is generally supportive such activities. Students must be confident that these activities do not significantly impact on their ability to complete the requirements of the Honours year.
Tutorials and Workshops
Several assessment-related workshops will be run in this unit and all students are expected to attend. These will be run in person for those students attending the Medical Sciences Precinct (Hobart) and made available via Zoom to all other students. Refer to the timetable for the scheduling.
