What is the Unit About?
Unit Description
HR professionals are expected to understand and practice human resource management aligned with organisational goals. This unit integrates theory and research to develop students' understanding of evidence-based human resource management and professional skills. Human resources development is widely recognised as a critical component in gaining a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Developing people's capabilities in diverse contexts is thus a vital contribution by HR professionals to the continuous improvement of the workforce. Besides, applying analytical processes to the organisation's human capital is critical to improving employee performance and enhancing employee retention. Thus, in this unit, we focus on four modules that will cover the following topics: · Performance Management System · Employee Remuneration System · Human Resource Development (HRD) · Human Resource Analytics
Intended Learning Outcomes
As per the Assessment and Results Policy 1.3, your results will reflect your achievement against specified learning outcomes.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Explain knowledge of Performance Management, Employee Remuneration, Training and Development, and HR Analytics.

Use analytical, critical and reflective thinking to analyse and design a Performance Management Plan.

Critically analyse an Employee Remuneration Scheme and make recommendations to enhance the system.

Perform independently and collaboratively in diverse teams to complete allocated HR tasks.

Attendance / engagement expectations
If your unit is offered On campus, it is expected that you will attend all on-campus and onsite learning activities. This is to support your own learning and the development of a learning community within the unit. If you are unable to attend regularly, please discuss the situation with your course coordinator and/or our UConnect support team.

If your unit is offered Online or includes online activities, it is expected you will engage in all those activities as indicated in the Unit Outline or MyLO, including any self-directed learning.

If you miss a learning activity for a legitimate reason (e.g., illness, carer responsibilities) teaching staff will attempt to provide alternative activities (e.g., make up readings) where it is possible.
 
The Tasmanian School of Business and Economics regularly hosts Masterclasses and Industry Engagement and Employability Events, which students are encouraged to attend. Registration and details will be available via the College of Business and Economics channel on the Uni App and/or via your Unit Coordinator.

Assessment details
Assessment Task 1: Workshop Contribution
Task Description:
Every week you will be given two or three workshop activities, and you should actively contribute to the activities during the workshop in small groups.

The activities are provided on Mylo and in the class

While 'attendance' is not a criterion for workshop assessment, students obviously would not demonstrate their preparation and contribution without attending workshops.

The preparation for and contribution to workshops activities will help students learn weekly topics and contribute to class discussion in meaningful, fruitful, and insightful ways.

Each workshop activity has specific marks, as presented on Mylo.

All students (On-campus and Distance students) should submit their answers to the activities in the written format (>200 words per activity) on Mylo.

The marks will be released by the next workshop, and the activities will be discussed in the workshop, so students can improve their responses.

Assessment Task 2: Performance Management Improvement
Task Description:
This assessment task aims to synthesise and extend your theoretical and practical knowledge about the Performance Management System. You need to develop a performance management plan for a firm to help the firm achieve its strategic goals. The information you need to establish the Performance Plan is in the scenario. You will learn how to develop a performance plan step-by-step in weeks 1 to 4.

Internal and Distance Students
To complete the task, you need to analyse a current performance management system. Then, you will redesign the performance management plan by focusing on KPI and evaluating and reviewing the activities that help the business achieve its strategic goals.

In evaluating your new plan, the lecturer is looking for the following points:
· What are the performance criteria in your new plan?
· What does your performance system measure to evaluate employees' performance?
· Are your new plan goals linked to strategies?
· Who will the performance information be collected from, and what information should be collected from each source?
· How do employees receive the feedback?
· Which types of training may employees need to improve their performance?

Your performance management plan should be fully referenced, and you will need to provide appropriate justification and support for what you propose. You can justify your plan by referring to academic journals and textbook material. You need to adhere to the APA referencing style.

You need to read the assessment section for details, and you should submit the assignment into the Mylo' Assignment Box'.

Assessment Task 3: HR Metrics Report
Task Description:
You will be given a case study and a set of data on Mylo.

You must use the HR analytics techniques to analyse the data provided. Then, you
should write a formal report explaining the findings and give some recommendations.
Bear in mind that the assignment format is a formal report, and visualisation (e.g.,
graphs, tables, figures, etc.) of the findings is critical. You should submit the report on
Mylo through the ‘Assignment Box’.

Important factors to consider;
▪ Using graphs, tables, and figures to report the analysis result is essential.
▪ Providing recommendations based on your analysis is essential.
▪ Providing calculations as an Appendix at the end of the report is essential.
▪ Adhering to the word limit: 1500 words – with a leeway of 10% (1350 words or
1650 words). This word limit does not include the cover page and the
reference list. You will be penalised 10% for every 50 words over the stipulated
word count.
▪ Using headings and subheadings in the report is essential;
▪ Submit your report in Microsoft Word format via Turnitin, under the Assessment
link.
▪ Hard copy submissions will not be accepted

How your final result is determined
To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.
Submission of assignments
Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.
Academic integrity
Academic integrity is about acting responsibly, honestly, ethically, and collegially when using, producing, and communicating information with other students and staff members.

Requests for extensions
If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.
 
A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.
 
The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.
Late penalties
Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Further information on Late Penalties can be found on the Assessments and Results Procedure.
Review of results and appeals
You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
