Unit Outline

This unit provides students with an opportunity to make practical use of knowledge they have acquired from their completed Masters units, in combination with gaining new skills in undertaking research. This unit will allow students to work in small teams to undertake practical research tasks to investigate an organisational context from multiple perspectives: knowledge management; e-logistics, and network security, with the aim of identifying opportunities for improvement. Students will then research appropriate solutions and present the organisation with a justified recommendation to how to take advantage of these available opportunities.

On completion of this unit, you will be able to:


1	Conduct an investigation on the ICT needs of an organisation from multiple perspectives using research processes, methodologies, tools and techniques;
2	Recommend potential solutions to improve an organisation's ICT applications and services;
3	Professionally communicate ICT expertise to non-ICT professionals in order to improve an organisation's ICT functionality;
4	Employ effective teamwork skills to be productive in ICT professional practice.

Assessment Task 1: Organisational Context

TASK DESCRIPTION:

Students will form groups of 3 or 4 to investigate a business/organisation broadly and from multiple
perspectives. Peer and self-evaluation will be conducted at the end of the assignment and students will be awarded an individual mark based on their contribution.

Assessment Task 2: Problems and Opportunities

TASK DESCRIPTION:

Description: Students will stay in their groups to identify problems and opportunities for organisational improvement following on from the organisational analysis undertaken in Assignment 1. Students will also be required to rank the opportunities identified. Peer and self-evaluation will be conducted at the end of the assignment so that students will be awarded an individual mark based on their contribution.

Students will stay in their groups to develop a set of recommendations and short and long term action plans for the organisation based on Assignments 1 and 2. Peer and self-evaluation will be conducted at the end of the assignment and students will be awarded an individual mark based on their contributions.

Students are to deliver a 15 minute presentation using Powerpoint (or equivalent) clearly highlighting the important points covered in Assignments 1, 2 and 3 in the tutorial in Week 13.

Assessment Task 5: Reflective Reports

TASK DESCRIPTION:

In the first reflective report due in Week 5, students are to identify three perspectives from their completed MITs units which are deemed relevant to their chosen business/organisation. Students should discuss the content covered in each of those units and justify why it is a relevant perspective.

In the second reflective report due in Week 12, students need to highlight the perspectives that have been used for their chosen business/organisation. Students will need to highlight how they have applied the knowledge that they have learnt in those perspectives to their chosen business/organisation.

How your final result is determined

To pass this unit, you need to demonstrate your attainment of each of the Intended Learning Outcomes, achieve a final unit grade of 50% or greater, and pass any hurdle tasks.

Submission of assignments

Where practicable, assignments should be submitted to an assignment submission folder in MYLO. You must submit assignments by the due date or receive a penalty (unless an extension of time has been approved by the Unit Coordinator). Students submitting any assignment in hard copy, or because of a practicum finalisation, must attach a student cover sheet and signed declaration for the submission to be accepted for marking.

Requests for extensions

If you are unable to submit an assessment task by the due date, you should apply for an extension.

A request for an extension should first be discussed with your Unit Coordinator or teaching support team where possible. A request for an extension must be submitted by the assessment due date, except where you can provide evidence it was not possible to do so. Typically, an application for an extension will be supported by documentary evidence: however, where it is not possible for you to provide evidence please contact your Unit Coordinator.

The Unit Coordinator must notify you of the outcome of an extension request within 3 working days of receiving the request.

Late Penalties

Assignments submitted after the deadline will receive a late penalty of 5% of the original available mark for each calendar day (or part day) that the assignment is late. Late submissions will not be accepted more than 10 calendar days after the due date, or after assignments have been returned to other students on a scheduled date, whichever occurs first. Review of results and appeals

You are entitled to ask for a review of the marking and grading of your assessment task if there is an irregularity in the marking standards or an error in the process for determining the outcome of an assessment. Details on how to request a review of a mark for an assignment are outlined in the Review and Appeal of Academic Decisions Procedure.
